Alphabet Poll Slams UK Company Car Drivers On The Environmental Cost Of Motoring
A recent survey conducted by Alphabet found that most company car drivers had failed to grasp even the basic concepts behind the legislation designed to reduce carbon emissions. Why?
Many company car drivers surveyed were found to have little understanding of how changing their driving habits could have a direct effect on their company’s car costs, or have a dramatic impact on reducing CO2 emissions. The drivers demonstrated little understanding about CO2 and fuel costs. Some 76% of drivers were unaware of their Vehicle Excise Duty Tax banding and 88% had no idea how much CO2 their car was emitting. Only a small proportion of drivers understood that a change in their driving habits could lead to reduced driving costs and lower c02 emissions.

As little as 15% of drivers polled said that they planned in the future to drive a lower CO2 car to reduce tax costs. Mark Sinclair, director of Alphabet said ” Our survey suggests that 8 out of 10 drivers are vague about the financial advantages of reducing C02″

Mr Sinclair went on to suggest that fleet managers would be unlikely to benefit from the cost savings available on their company cars unless they imposed strict policy guidelines to ensure that employee drivers drove greener business cars and vans.
